We view inclusion in its broadest sense: not as an additional task or a special case, but as a fundamental principle. For us, inclusion means viewing diversity as the norm and to harness diversity as a strength. Every child brings their own experiences, perspectives, and potential—and it is precisely these differences that enrich our school life at the elementary and comprehensive school. We create spaces where all children are seen, heard, and taken seriously.
Through cooperative learning methods, multidisciplinary teams, and individualized support, we enable all students to learn at their own pace and to Unlock Potential —from elementary school through high school graduation and into a vocational training program. Our educational approach is guided by the children’s needs—not the other way around.
In small learning groups, we foster not only knowledge but also self-confidence, empathy, and a sense of responsibility.
The Offene Schule Köln is more than just a place of learning—it is a community where every child is welcome – regardless of their talent, background, religion, parents’ income, or disability. Our approach is based on the belief that true education can only succeed when all children have the opportunity to learn together, inspire one another, and benefit from one another.

At Offene Schule Köln, we want children to know: You are just right the way you are. For us, education means empowering young people—for themselves, for others, and for society.
Founded by a dedicated parents’ initiative, the Netzwerk Inklusive Schule Köln e. V., the Offene Schule Köln—as a recognized, privately operated alternative school—receives public subsidies that, however, cover only a portion of its actual costs. To fund our unique educational approach, individualized support, therapeutic guidance, and accessible learning environments, we rely on donations.
Every donation therefore helps ensure that diversity is not excluded, but is embraced as a strength—day by day, child by child.
According to the most recent financial statement from 2023, 98.4% of the expenditures of Netzwerk Inklusive Schule e.V. directly benefit Offene Schule Köln (Source: 2023 Annual Report).
